MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have released center Shawn Bates from his AHL contract, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.

Bates, 34, is a native of Melrose, Massachusetts and recorded one assist in 10 games with the Monarchs since joining the team on December 10, 2009. He missed 26 games with the Monarchs when he was sidelined with a lower body injury on December 29. With a professional career spanning over 12 seasons, Bates has appeared in 465 NHL games, scoring 72 goals and collecting 126 assists (72-126198). Prior to joining the Monarchs this season, Bates suited up in 20 games with HIFK Helsinki in Finland, recording five goals and 16 assists (5-1621).
