NEWS AND NOTES
Where they stand...The Rivermen currently sit in sixth place of the West Division with 74 points. Peoria is now seven points back of fourth-place Milwaukee for the final playoff spot with 10 games to play. The Rivermen have two games in-hand on both San Antonio who they trail by one point in the standings.
P is for Points...Pascal Pelletier has picked up 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in his last 10 games to overtake Lars Eller for the team lead in points. His 51 points (15g, 36a) are now the most for a Rivermen since 2007-08 when Jean-Guy Trudel finished with 67. Last season the Rivermen were led by both Trent Whitfield (22g. 28a) and Steve Regier (20g, 30a) with 50. 16 of Pelletier's points did come with the Syracuse Crunch. Lars Eller has 49 points (14g, 35a) all with the Rivermen this season.
Forget the Penguins...Nate Guenin has eight assists and is a plus-11 in 17 games since joining the Rivermen on Feb. 11. He had just five points and was a minus-3 in 41 games in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton prior to the Blues' trade with Pittsburgh for Steve Wagner.
Road Warriors...The Rivermen finished their season-long seven-game road trip on Friday with a 4-2-1 record. They averaged 3.71 goals per game while allowed 3.57 on the trip.
Penalty Problems...Peoria has allowed a power-play goal in 14 straight games and has killed off 85 of 104 (81.7 percent) over that stretch (dating back to Feb. 23.). It is their second longest stretch of the season after having allowed a PPG in 16 consecutive games from Dec. 4 to Jan. 10. Their penalty kill is just 28-for-41 (68.3 percent) over their last eight games.
Taking full advantage...The Rivermen power play is 10-for-36 (27.8 percent) over their last eight games and sits behind only the Hershey Bears for overall power-play percentage with 21.1 percent. Peoria is the best road power-play team in the league at 22.2 percent.
Goalie Swap...Hannu Toivonen and the Peoria Rivermen beat Joe Fallon and the Rockford IceHogs 3-2 in overtime back on Oct. 4. On March 19, Fallon and the Rivermen took down Toivonen and the IceHogs 3-1. It marked the only confirmed instance in AHL history in which two goaltenders played against one another, swapped teams and faced each other again. Toivonen and Danny Richmond were traded from St. Louis to Chicago for Fallon and Daryl Boyle on March 1.
