Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- The Milwaukee Admirals scored early and often in the first period and hung on for a 3-2 victory Tuesday evening against the Texas Stars. Three first period goals and a strong penalty kill were the ingredients to the Admirals success in winning their third straight game.
While not being able to capitalize on a couple of great opportunities early on, including hitting the post twice, the Ads efforts would be rewarded. It took an apparently mundane shot by Triston Grant from just inside the blue line to give the Admirals a 1-0 advantage at 11:01 of the first. Grant looked to send the puck on net before a line change shot and Texas goalie Brent Krahn lost sight of the puck as it passed by his chest into the net. Mike Santorelli and Alexander Sulzer both received helpers on the opening goal.
The Ads second goal was Dave Scatchard showing off his marksmanship at 15:26 of the first to increase Milwaukee's lead to 2-0. Scatchard snapped a shot shot from above the dot and Krahn wouldn't be able to stop the shot before it found the back of the net. Andreas Thuresson and Marty Murray assisted on the snipe by Scatchard.
Mike Santorelli scored the eventual game winner with six seconds left in the first to give the Ads a 3-0 lead. Santorelli skated into the Texas zone and fired a wrister that beat Krahn fivehole. Ryan Thang notched his first point for the Ads assisting on the goal, along with defenseman Teemu Laakso. Krahn who faced twenty shots in the opening stanza would be pulled after the first for backup Matt Climie.
Despite being down 3-0 entering the second Texas wouldn't go quietly into the Milwaukee night as they outshoot Milwaukee 15-7 in the second. Texas' first goal was tallied by Dan Jancevski who went uncovered in the slot and one timed a shot past Milwaukee goaltender Dekanich bringing the score to 3-1.
An Admirals turnover in the neutral zone lead to Perttu Lindgren blasting a slap shot through Dekanich's five hole at the 12:12 mark of the second. The unassisted goal was one of many scoring chances for the Stars in the second period, but the Ads still went into the third period with a one goal lead.
The Ads goaltender and penalty kill team would be the reason the Ads walked away with the victory. Dekanich stoped all ten of the shots he faced in the period and Milwaukee successfully killed off all three of their shorthanded situations on the way to the one goal victory.
Dekanich finished the game stopping 35 of 38 shots. Clime shutout the Ads, stopping all 14 of the shots he faced, while starting goaltender Krahn finished with 17 saves.
Spaling has played 21 games for the Predators during his rookie NHL season (one previous recall, Dec. 15-Jan. 30), posting three assists while averaging 10:42 of ice time. Nashville's third choice, 58th overall (second round) in the 2007 Entry Draft is also averaging 1:40 of shorthanded ice time in 2009-10, fifth-best among rookie forwards. The Palmerston, Ont., native has 17 points (7g-10a) in 48 games for the Admirals in 2009-10.
