Monarchs hand Devils 2-0 loss

Manchester, NH "" Jason LaBarbara made 34 saves for the Manchester Monarchs (11-8-5-1), blanking the Lowell Devils (12-11-2-1) 2-0 Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Manchester had the edge in the first period, outshooting the visiting Devils 13-9 in the period and taking the lead late in the frame. Ryan Murphy made it 1-0 when he banged in a rebound for his fourth of the season at 15:59 of the first. Only one penalty was taken in the period, a harmless hooking minor against the Monarchs, and the first ended 1-0.

The second period saw a little more activity, with a handful of penalties in the second half of the stanza, but the Devils couldn't get on the board. Jason LaBarbara turned aside 10 Lowell shots in the period, while the Devils went 0-for-2 on the power play.

The Devils continued to pressure in the third, but LaBarbara held down the fort for Manchester. Lowell held a 15-3 lead in shots during the period, but Manchester extended the lead. Patrick O'Sullivan netted his eighth of the season on a breakaway at 7:33 to make it 2-0. The Devils had two more power plays in the third, and also pulled their netminder late in the game, but couldn't beat the veteran goalie. Jordan Parise allowed just two goals on 24 shots, but suffered the loss for the Devils, who were shutout for the ! third time on the season.

The Devils play their next three games on the road, including tomorrow in Hartford at 7:30 p.m. and return home to host the Providence Bruins on Sunday, December 17th at 4:05 p.m. One lucky fan that night will win a trip for two to see the New Jersey Devils host the Boston Bruins in April, including an overnight stay in New Jersey and round-trip limo service, courtesy of Corporate Coach & Limousine.
