Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Yann Danis made 33 saves on 34 shots and stopped seven of the nine shooters he faced in the shootout to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday night. Matt D'Agostini's goal at 15:53 of the third period allowed all of the 4,835 fans at Copps Coliseum to throw their stuffed animals onto the ice in support of the Bulldogs annual Toy Toss.
After two scoreless periods, the Penguins struck first on the power play at the 1:08 mark of the third frame. Daniel Carcillo slid the puck into the net after a mad scramble in front of the Bulldogs crease. Matt Carkner and Tom Gilbert picked up assists on Carcillo's 10th goal of the season.
The Bulldogs evened the score 1-1 when Duncan Milroy fed a breakaway pass to Matt D'Agostini who had just jumped out of the penalty box after serving a two-minute minor. D'Agostini snapped a shot over Pens goaltender Jeff Deslauriers on the blocker side for his sixth goal of the season. Dan Jancevski also drew an assist on the goal that came at the 15:53 mark of the third period and eventually forced the game to overtime.
After overtime solved nothing, the game went to a shootout. Andrei Kostitsyn and Eric Manlow each scored for the 'Dogs in the first round of the shootout while Tyler Kennedy and Daniel Carcillo tallied for the Penguins. Corey Locke then scored the eventual shootout-winning goal before Yann Danis stopped Jonathan Filewich to seal the victory for Hamilton.
Nearly 2,000 stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice immediately following the D'Agostini goal in the third period. All of the stuffed animals collected will be donated to local not-for-profit groups in the Hamilton area and will be distributed to families in need for Christmas.
Two players reached significant milestones in the game for Hamilton. Defenceman Jean-Philippe Cote played in his 200th career AHL game, while goaltender Yann Danis, appearing in his 108th contest, tied former netminder Steve Passmore for the most games played by a Bulldogs goaltender.
The Bulldogs return to action at 7:35 p.m. tomorrow night (Saturday, December 9th) when they travel to Rochester to take on the Americans at Blue Cross Arena at Rochester Memorial. Fans can listen to every 'Dogs game this season on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, 820 CHAM "The Legend," beginning with the Park's Furniture Pre-Game Show 20 minutes prior to each scheduled game time.
