BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Norfolk Admirals scored two power-play goals and one short-handed marker on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Center Jonas Nordqvist put the Admirals out in front, as he buried a power-play marker at 3:11 of the first period. Norfolk came into the contest rank first in the AHL on the power play.
Leading scorer Troy Brouwer netted the second power-play tally of the night late in the first period to open the Admirals lead to 2-0.
Early in the second stanza, David Bolland flipped a back-handed shot from the left post past goalie Kelly Guard. Bryan Bickell collected his second assist of the night on the play.
Leading scorer Jeff Heerema gave the Senators life, as the Thunder Bay native snatched up a loose puck and flipped it past goalie Sebastien Caron to make it a 3-1 game. The tally was Heerema's 12th of the season.
Defenseman Jordan Hendry smashed a one-timer from just inside the blue line past Guard to once again make it a three-goal game.
The Senators answered back, as their own defenseman collected a short-handed marker. Veteran Jamie Allison blasted a slap shot over the left shoulder of Caron. It was his first AHL goal since 1997, and the first short-handed goal of his career.
The Admirals tacked on a late goal to make it a 5-2 final, as they have a 3-0 advantage in the season series with the Senators.
The Senators are right back on the ice tomorrow night, as they host Bridgeport at 7:05 p.m.
