Manchester Monarchs News Release
ONE SPOT LEFT
The Manchester Monarchs (86), Adirondack Thunder (83) and Reading Royals (82) have all clinched a playoff spot in the North Division, leaving one spot left for the top four seeds in the North. The Wheeling Nailers currently sit fourth with 75 points, trailed by the Worcester Railers with 74 points and two games in hand over the Nailers. Wheeling has three games left, including tonight, to secure a playoff spot.
HOME ICE ADVANTAGE?
Wheeling has played well at home this season, posting a 20-12-3-0 record at WesBanco Arena, while scoring 130 goals at home this season, the fourth most in the league. Manchester brings a North Division best, 20-9-2-2, road record into tonight, to go along with the top road power-play unit in the league, scoring on 22.7% of their chances.
FINDING WHAT WORKED
The Monarchs have allowed 15 goals in their last three games, averaging five goals against per game. This three-game skid for the Monarchs is coming off some of their best defensive hockey of the season, when they allowed just three goals in three games from Mar. 17 to Mar. 23, including a shutout against the Thunder. Manchester has seen their goals against average go from 7th in the league at 2.89, to 9th in the league at 2.99 in a week. The Monarchs will look to get back to their lock down defense against a Wheeling team that ranks 6th in the league with 3.38 goals scored per game.
