Colorado Eagles News Release
ALLEN, TX. - Allen scored two goals in the third period to push their way to a 5-4 win over the Colorado Eagles on Saturday. Eagles defenseman Matt Register and forward Joey Ratelle each notched a goal and an assist in the losing effort, while defenseman Chase Norrish and forward Matt Garbowsky also registered multi-point games in the loss.
Defenseman Joel Chouinard would put the home team on top early, when he fired a slapshot from the point through traffic and into the back of the net to put the Americans in the lead, 1-0 just 5:23 into the contest.
Colorado would strike back minutes later, as Ratelle would deflect a shot from the top of the circle past Allen goalie Jake Paterson to tie the game at 1-1 at the 9:02 mark of the first period.
It would take just 2:01 for the Americans to reclaim the lead, when forward J.C. Campagna tipped a puck on the side of the crease past Eagles goaltender Joe Cannata to put Allen back on top, 2-1 with 8:57 remaining in the opening frame.
Moving into the second period, Colorado would again generate an answer, as Register weaved his way through the slot before shooting a wrister into the back of the net to knot the score at 2-2 just 5:49 into the period.
Less than four minutes later the Americans would hop back in the driver's seat when forward Bryan Moore fielded a cross slot pass on the rush before lighting the lamp with a shot from the left circle to give Allen a 3-2 edge.
In another show of resiliency, the Eagles would tie the game at 3-3 when forward Ben Storm grabbed a pass at the top of the left circle and rifled the puck past Paterson with 5:55 remaining in the second period.
A power play early in the third period would result in a shot from the point from Chouinard that would beat Cannata and give the Americans the 4-3 edge at the 4:20 mark of the period. The lead would grow to two when forward Thomas Frazee stuffed home a loose puck in the crease to stretch Allen's lead to 5-3 with 7:12 left in the contest.
Colorado would pull Cannata in favor of the extra attacker and the move would produce a goal when forward Ryan Olsen tipped a shot in the low slot past Paterson to trim the deficit to 5-4 with 1:51 still remaining in the third period. With Cannata still off for the extra attacker the Eagles would generate a few quality chances, but would draw no closer, falling by a final score of 5-4.
Colorado finished the night going 0-for-1 on the power play, while the Americans went 1-for-2 on the man-advantage.
The Eagles return to action when they return home to take on the Utah Grizzlies at the Budweiser Events Center in on Wednesday, April 4th at 7:05pm MT.
