Mallards Fall in Overtime

March 31, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Daniel Leavens scored at 1:03 of overtime to give the host Rapid City Rush (22-40-6) a 4-3 victory over the Quad City Mallards (22-41-5) Friday night. The Mallards did earn one point for the sudden death setback.

Leavens charged in off the left wing to score the game winner from close range after the Rush had twice battled from behind to tie the game in regulation.

Rapid City's Andrew Radjenovic knotted the score at three from the slot at 17:08 of the second period- just under three minutes after Alexander Kuqali gave the Mallards a 3-2 lead by finishing off a give-and-go with Jamie Tardif.

The Rush first rallied after falling behind 2-0. Jake Bolton opened the scoring from slot at 4:30 of the first period. At 8:18 of the first the Mallard advantage doubled when Travis Armstrong buried the rebound after his initial bid was stopped by Rapid City goaltender Christian Frey. The Rush responded with two second period goals separated by just 13 seconds (and a delay for a broken pane of glass to be replaced). A Pavel Jenys strike from the left wing circle was followed in short order by Alec Baer's point-blank equalizer.

The Mallards and Rush meet again tomorrow night in Rapid City. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Rush. All seats for next Wednesday night's game are available for just $5.

Tickets for next Wednesday night's game- and all remaining Mallards regular season home games- are also now on sale at the TaxSlayer Center box office, Ticketmaster toll free charge-by-phone (1-800-745-3000) and ticketmaster.com.
