MALLARDS NOTES

Last Night

Daniel Leavens scored at 1:03 of overtime to give the host Rush a 4-3 victory over the Mallards.

The Mallards earned one point for last night's sudden death setback.

Rapid Return

Tonight's game is the second of three straight between the Mallards and Rush. The two clubs meet again next Wednesday in Moline.

Overtime

The Mallards are now 2-4 this season in games decided in overtime.

All three Mallard goals were scored by defensemen last night. Jake Bolton and Travis Armstrong struck in the first period. Alexander Kuqali scored in the second. A fourth Mallard defenseman- Dmitry Osipov- also recorded a point last night by assisting on Armstrong's goal.

Narrow Margin

The Mallards' last four games and seven of their last eight contests have been decided by one goal. The Mallards' last four wins have all been one-goal victories. The Mallards have gone 14-8-5 in one-goal games this season.

Front Runner

The Mallards fell last night despite not trailing until Leavens scored the sudden death winner. The Rush battled back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits.

Muzzled

The Mallards have scored three goals or fewer in each of their last 12 games. The Mallards gave up four goals last night after allowing a total of just three over their prior two games. The Mallards have, however, surrendered three regulation goals or fewer in each of their last four games and in six of their last seven outings.

Road Trip

The Mallards tonight play their last road game of the season. This evening's tilt is also the finale of a five-game road swing. The Mallards have gone 2-2-1 over the first five games of that trip.

Home Cooking

After tonight the Mallards return home for their final three games. The Mallards have lost their last three home games. That skid is their longest home regulation losing streak this season.

Shooting Gallery

The Mallards fell despite outshooting the Rush 37-36 last night. The Mallards finished with the edge in shots on goal yesterday evening after being outshot in each of their prior five games.

Debut

Stanislav Dzakhov produced his first career point by collecting an assist while making his professional debut last night. Dzakhov signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Mallards Thursday.

First

The goal Armstrong scored last night was his first in the ECHL this season in 45 games split between the Mallards (29) and Adirondack Thunder (16). He did score five goals earlier in the campaign over sixteen Southern Professional Hockey League games with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.

Double Down

Jamie Tardif notched two assists last night and has now recorded six points (three goals and three assists) in his last six games.

Helping Hand

Willie Raskob is tied for second among ECHL rookies and tied for seventh among defensemen in assists (32).

Between the Pipes

C.J. Motte suffered the overtime loss in goal last night despite making 32 saves.

Red Light District

The Mallards rank twenty-seventh in the ECHL in goals scored per game (2.7) and goals allowed per game (4.1). The Mallards have now scored two goals fewer (181) than the Rush (183).

Outside the Box

The Mallards are the second least penalized team in the ECHL. They average 9.7 minutes in the box per game.

Special Teams

The Mallards went 0-for-2 on the power play last night. The Rush went 0-for-1. The Mallards have gone 0-for-15 on the power play over their last five games. The Mallards have killed off their opponents' last eight advantages and 13 of their foes' last 14 power plays. The Mallards rank nineteenth in the ECHL on the power play (16.1 percent) and twenty-fifth in penalty killing (78.2 percent).

Head to Head

Last night's game was the opener of the Mallards' three-game, six-day season series against the Rush. Last night's win was Rapid City's first against the Mallards since the Rush claimed a 5-2 victory in Moline on February 27, 2016. The Mallards went 3-0-0 against the Rush overall last season and 2-0-0 in Rapid City. All-time, the Mallards have gone 27-13-5 against the Rush overall and 12-8-3 at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
