MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs could not overcome a three-goal deficit and fell to the Worcester Railers, 4-1, Saturday night at the SNHU Arena.

The Monarchs (33-17-3-1) fell to the Railers (24-22-4-3) for the first time since Jan. 12.

The Railers opened the scoring at 2:58 of the first period with a goal from Chris Langkow. Barry Almeida threw a pass to Langkow where he skated down the right-wing before sliding across the top of the paint to his backhand to put the puck past the stick of Monarchs, Evan Cowley, for his 15th goal of the season.

The Railers extended their lead when Matt Gaudreau scored his 10th goal of the season at 16:51 of the first period to make the score, 2-0. Jeff Kubiak found Gaudreau crashing the net on a 2-on-1, where he hit his tape for a quick one-timer past Cowley's stick.

The Railers took a three-goal lead when Kubiak netted his 10th goal of the season at 1:28 of the second period. Kyle McKenzie sent the puck Kubiak in on a breakaway while short-handed and Kubiak slid a backhander through the five-hole of Cowley to make it, 3-0, Worcester.

The Monarchs bounced back on the power play when Matt Leitner netted his 9th goal of the season at 6:54 of the second period. Zac Lynch took a shot from the right dot that deflected off the stick of Kevin Morris and directly to Leitner to the right of Railers goaltender, Mitch Gillam, and Leitner made no mistake with the empty net to make it a 3-1 game.

The Railers retook their three-goal lead with a goal from Kellen Jones at 16:49 of the second period for his 10th goal of the season. From the behind the net, Almeida found Jones inside the left-wing circle, where Jones sent one-timer while backing up past the stick of Cowley to make the score, 4-1.

The Monarchs return to action Sunday, Feb. 25 (3 p.m.) when the Reading Royals visit SNHU Arena.
