Americans Swept in Weekend Set with KC

February 24, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release

Kansas City, MO -The Allen Americans fell to the Kansas City Mavericks on Saturday night in Kansas City by a score of 1-0.

Right from the start the physicality from the last game carried over into this game. Dalton Thrower and Eric Freschi threw down just 47 seconds into the game. Despite the shots being close (9 for Kansas City, 8 for Allen), the Mavericks were able to capitalize on one putting them up 1-0, which is how the score would remain.

Both teams were able to show off their power plays in the second period, with each team getting two tries, but both failing to score. The Mavericks stepped up their defensive game in this period holding the Americans to just three shots on goal in the period. But neither team was able to find the back of the net and the score remained 1-0 through two periods.

Early in the third two fights simultaneously broke out between Brian Moore and Mark Cooper and Alex Guptill and Kayle Doetzel. Guptill and Doetzel were both given game misconducts, which proved to be costly for the Americans as Guptill is one of their top offensive producers. The Americans outshot the Mavericks in the third period 11-5, but were outshot in the game 27-22. The game would conclude with a score of 1-0 in favor of Kansas City.

Americans look to get back into the win column at home on March 2nd against the Rapid City Rush.
