Americans Face Mavericks Again Tonight
February 24, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Kansas City, Missouri - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, close out the two-game road trip tonight at 7:35 pm against the Kansas City Mavericks. Allen dropped the first game last night,6-3.
The Americans have dropped three in a row and six of their last seven games headed into tonight's matchup. Kansas City ended their long losing skid last night, winning for the first time in the month of February and ended an eight-game losing streak. Allen had a 3-1 second period lead last night, but gave it up by allowing four unanswered goals in the third period.
"We were soft and let them walk right to the front of our net," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "It's the same things we've been talking about all season. It was tough to watch. Too many mistakes cost us the game."
The shorthanded Americans, playing without several key players, had just eight forwards in the lineup last night with Miles Liberati moving up front from the blue-line. Colby McAuley and Alex Schoenborn remain in San Jose with the Barracuda, while Zach Hall remains out with an upper body injury. With the trade deadline coming in early March, Head Coach Steve Martinson hinted yesterday that changes will be coming if the club is unable to fix their problems.
The Americans penalty kill remains near the bottom of the league, 23rd overall at 79.8 %, just ahead of Kansas City who is 24th at 78.9 %. Allen has given up 49 power play goals in the 243 times this season the club has been shorthanded.
Tonight's game against Kansas City will start a half hour later, due to the Harlem Globetrotters basketball game at the arena today at Noon. You can watch tonight's game pay per-view on ECHL TV or listen online for free on the Mixlr app.
The Americans return home for two games next weekend against the Rapid City Rush. Next Saturday night is the 9th annual Allen Police vs. Allen Fire Charity Hockey Game. The doubleheader begins at 5:05 pm. Only one ticket needed for both games. Get seats online right now at www.allenamericans.com.
