Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - Aaron Mizell smacked a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Tri-City ValleyCats twice overcame deficits of at least two runs to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades 7-6 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, on Saturday night.

The Renegades first jumped out to a lead in the top of the second, when Hudson Valley second baseman Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run single with two outs.

But the 'Cats wasted no time coming back from that deficit, as Dexture McCall drove home Bobby Wernes with an RBI double to center field, before coming home to score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

However, Hudson Valley quickly went back ahead with two runs in the third inning, and one run in the fourth, to take a 5-2 lead.

After the ValleyCats scored a run in the fifth, the Renegades once again pushed their lead to three with a run in the top of the seventh inning, before Tri-City began their comeback in the bottom half of the frame.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Keach Ballard singled on a line drive to center field, then moved to third on a double by Marlon Avea, before both runners scored on a two-run single by Johnny Sewald.

Two batters later, with two outs and Sewald on second base, Mizell drilled a 3-2 pitch from Renegades right-hander Reece Karalus over the left-center field wall, to put the 'Cats ahead 7-6.

Hudson Valley did manage to put a runner on second base with one out in the top of the eighth, but Tri-City reliever Jacob Dorris came in and retired the final five Renegades batters, four of which were by strikeouts, to seal the victory for the 'Cats, and earn his sixth save of the year.

Getting the win for Tri-City was right-hander Rogelio Armenteros (2-2), who struck out two batters, while only allowing two hits, in 3.1 innings of relief.

Leading the way in the hit column for the 'Cats was Sewald, who finished 3-for-3, with a double and two runs batted in.

Tri-City will now head to Wappingers Falls, N.Y., to conclude the season series with the Renegades at 5:05 p.m., at Dutchess Stadium. On the mound for the ValleyCats will be RHP Harold Arauz (0-3, 5.84), with LHP Travis Ott (5-3, 4.00) getting the start for Hudson Valley.
