-SPIKES HIT THE ROAD TO TAKE ON MUCKDOGS: The State College Spikes, who still hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race by one game, continue their 10th Season this evening as they continue a three-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium. The Spikes also remain within striking distance of Williamsport in the Pinckney Division standings as they are 5 1/2 games back entering Saturday with six meetings between the two teams remaining on the schedule. State College is 3-4 against Batavia this year, with a 1-3 record on the road against the Muckdogs. All-time, the Spikes are 48-49 against the Muckdogs, with a 22-26 mark at Dwyer Stadium.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes again took an early lead on Friday night, but the Batavia Muckdogs took advantage of State College mistakes and a pair of homers to take a 5-1 decision at Dwyer Stadium. State College took the lead in the opening frame as Thomas Spitz singled and scored on Leobaldo Pina's sacrifice fly. However, Batavia activated the bats after being held without a hit for the first four innings. In the sixth, Brad Haynal doubled off the top of the left field wall to tie the game and a errant pickoff throw to third scored Travis Brewster to give the Muckdogs the lead. Blake Anderson then delivered another run with a single to make it 3-1, Batavia. The Muckdogs then got solo home runs from Alex Fernandez in the seventh and Haynal in the eighth to finalize the scoring. Jesse Jenner was the only Spike with multiple hits, and ended up with three in the game. Spitz stole two bases on the night for State College as well.

-PEREZ MAKES START FOR SPIKES: State College right-hander Juan Perez gets the ball for his 10th start of the season tonight in his first appearance since pitching in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday. Perez has faced the Muckdogs twice this season, including an outing in which he struck out 10 batters to tie a Spikes single-game record in a win on July 18 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The San Felipe, Venezuela native took the loss in the second game of an August 5 doubleheader at Dwyer Stadium after yielding two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings.

-LILEK GETS BALL MUCKDOGS: Batavia left-hander Brett Lilek will make his 11th appearance and 10th start of the year for the Muckdogs tonight. Lilek is making his third appearance against the Spikes, having thrown five shutout innings in a no-decision on August 5 in the first game of a twin bill after allowing five runs over 3 1/3 innings on July 18 in a loss at State College. Lilek, the Marlins' 2015 second-round draft choice out of Arizona State, has only yielded one run over 15 innings in the month of August, posting a 1-0 record in that time and striking out 20 batters while walking only two.

-SPIKES PRODUCE, BUT SOUTH FALLS IN ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes representatives Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Casey Grayson, Juan Perez and Landon Beck all made contributions to the South n the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, but the North won the annual showcase of baseball's future stars, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. Pina, who doubled, joined Pritchard, who scored a run, with hits in the game.

-MARTIN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: Spikes Athletic Trainer Dan Martin has been named the New York-Penn League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League, with an additional award is given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year. Martin is now eligible for the Minor League Trainer of the Year award as well, which will be given at the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.

-SPIKE MARKS: Landon Beck, who had the third-most strikeouts in the league with 51, was called up to Single-A Peoria on Friday...The Spikes also welcomed right-handed pitcher Josh Wirsu, who was brought up from Rookie-level Johnson City...Wirsu is set to start on Monday in Williamsport...Pedro Echemendia is second in the NYPL with 20 appearances...Casey Grayson is third in the NYPL in on-base percentage at .416, and fourth in batting average with a .307 mark...Last night's loss dealt the Spikes back-to-back losses for the first time since being swept in a doubleheader on August 5 at Batavia
