Cutters' Offense Explodes in Late Inning Win

The Williamsport Crosscutters picked up their third straight win and seventh this season against the Auburn Doubledays on Saturday night at Falcon Park. The Cutters scored seven runs between the eighth and ninth innings to improve to 38-22 this season. The 38 wins assures that the Cutters will finish with at least a .500 season. Williamsport holds a 5 1/2 game lead over second place State College.

The Crosscutters had a slow start against Auburn starter and southpaw Matt Crownover as he would go onto retire the first 12 batters to start the game. Auburn would strike first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Williamsport got some momentum going in the top of the sixth inning against Auburn's bullpen.

William Cuicas would draw a leadoff walk against Luis Torres and later score on a RBI double from Venn Biter.

Biter would then score on an RBI single from Josh Tobias to tie the game 2-2.

Williamsport would shine offensively against the Doubledays bullpen in the top of the eighth inning. Biter and Tobias started things off for the Cutters by reaching on a pair of errors from the Auburn infielders. With runners at second and third, Biter would score on a wild pitch to give the Cutters a 3-2 lead. Jan Hernandez would then triple to score Pujols making it 4-2. Greg Brodzinski added to the Cutters lead in his first start of the season picking up a double to score Hernandez, making it 5-2.

The Cutters finished the night by scoring three more runs in the ninth inning to take a 9-3 lead. Hernandez would highlight the inning with an RBI double to finish the night a home run shy of the cycle. Kenny Koplove picked up the win for Williamsport by tossing a scoreless seventh inning. Sutter McLoughlin and Andrew Godail each worked a single inning in relief for the Cutters. Godail closed out the game with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
