Auburn Doubledays News Release

Tonight's Game: The Doubledays host the Crosscutters for game two of a three- game series. Auburn sends Matthew Crownover to the hill to face Alejandro Arteaga for Williamsport. Tonight's game is also the first of a five-game home stand.

Last Night's Game: The Doubledays visited the Crosscutters on the road and lost 3- 1. Grant Borne took the loss, but was very good. Borne's line was L, 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, and 6 K's. All four hits and all three runs the lefty gave up came in the third inning. Borne retired the side in order 1-2-3 in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings.

Bullpen Domination: Auburn's 'pen has been dominant over the course of the season recording a 3.10 ERA (89 ER in 258.1 IP). The starting pitchers haven't been as fortunate recording a 5.13 ERA (131 ER in 230.0 IP). Also of note, the Doubledays have surrendered 125 runs in the first three innings combined (40, 36, and 49 in the first through third respectively). Those 125 runs account for exactly 46% of the runs Auburn's pitching staff has given up this year (274 total).

The Wild Card Chase: With 17 games left in the season, the Doubledays sit 4.5 games back in the wild card race. State College currently leads the wild card chase with the following teams behind them: Lowell 1.0 GB, Aberdeen 1.5 GB, Staten Island 1.5 GB, West Virginia 1.5 GB, Hudson Valley 2.0 GB, Connecticut 2.0 GB, Brooklyn 4.0 GB, Auburn 4.5 GB, Mahoning Valley 4.5 GB, Batavia 6.0 GB, and Vermont 6.0 GB.

This Dude is On Fire: Since not playing from July 25th until August 6th, Max Schrock has played in 13 games. In his first game back, the infielder went 0-1 on August 6th. In the 12 games since, he has raised his batting average from .246 to .289. Schrock did have an 11-game hit streak and 12-game on-base streak, but both ended last night when he went 0-4 with one strikeout.

These Cleats Aren't Made For Walking: Over their last five games, the Doubledays have drawn just four walks, including none in two of those games. This season, Auburn as a whole has drawn 165 walks, tied for the second-fewest in the New York-Penn League with Connecticut and Hudson Valley. Aberdeen has the fewest with just 138.

Season Series in Danger: Auburn this season is 1-6 against Williamsport with five games to go. The Doubledays need to win the final five to finish the season at .500 against the Crosscutters. The 'Days have lost the season series to the West Virginia Black Bears already 3-8 while currently leading the season series against the Batavia Muckdogs, Mahoning Valley Scrappers, and State College Spikes.

Keeping Men Off Base: In last night's 3-1 loss, the Doubledays gave up just five hits, four of which came in the third. Outside of the third inning, Williamsport only put three men on base, one on a walk in the seventh and two in the eighth on a single and a walk. Auburn's pitchers also worked five 1-2-3 innings last night in Williamsport out of the eight they pitched in.
