
Miguel Pena Tosses Complete Game in 3-0 Loss

WINNIPEG, MB-The Sioux Falls Canaries continued their three-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Wednesday night at Shaw Park. Starting pitcher Miguel Pena tossed a complete game, but the lost the game by the final score of 3-0.
The Lefty gave up just one hit over his first two innings of work, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third inning after Ryan Babineau reached base with a leadoff single. Adam Heisler drove in the first run of the night with a two-out single to center fielder, and later scored a run on a Reggie Abercrombie two-run home run to make it 3-0.
Pena settled down after the rocky third inning, allowing just two more Goldeyes batters to reach base the rest of the night.
Pena (6-6, 3.15 ERA) allowed three runs on six hits over eight innings in the loss. It was the second complete game of the season for Pena, both coming against the Goldeyes.
Goldeyes starting pitcher Edwin Carl (2-0, 2.49 ERA) earned his second victory of the season in just his third start of the season with Winnipeg. The right-hander recorded nine strikeouts on the night, hold the Canaries offense to just three hits in the complete game, shutout victory.
The Goldeyes pitching staff have now help the Canaries offense scoreless over their last 18 inning, the longest streak of the season.
The series wraps up with a day game on Thursday afternoon. RHP Stephen Bougher (3-4, 4.38 ERA) makes his 12th start of the season for the Birds with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM.
The Canaries open up a weekend series against the Gary-Southshore RailCats on Friday, August 14th.
