Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - For the first time since 2009, the Lowcountry's wrestling fans will have the opportunity to witness up close some of the industry's most talented athletes at The Joe. Quite small, but very talented. Midget wrestling -- fittingly and appropriately presented by MINI of Charleston -- returns following the Charleston RiverDogs' 7:05pm game against the West Virginia Power on Thursday, April 19.
Half Pint Brawlers will feature two of their most popular wrestlers in Charleston as Puppet and Smallz will face off against one another in the squared circle at Riley Park. They are both featured on the "Half Pint Brawlers" television show on the Spike network.
"We're always excited to have wrestling return to The Joe, and that the card features the small guys makes it twice as big," says RiverDogs GM Dave Echols. "Over the years, we've received great feedback from our fans about wrestling. And for some reason, they like the small guys. We're glad that we're able to make it happen again, and sincerely thank MINI of Charleston for sponsoring it."
The ring will be set-up in Margaritaville down the left field line at the park, and the bell will sound shortly after the game's final out. Additionally, both wrestlers will appear on the field at some point between innings to help fans decide who they want to win the bout.
Thursday will also be the season's second Budweiser Thirsty Thursday that features $1 beers, food specials and DJ Natty Heavy performing in the Ashley View Pub. Plus, it's Palmetto Pride Night as the RiverDogs promote the effort to help keep South Carolina beautiful. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting www.RiverDogs.com, calling 843/577-DGOS (3647), or stopping by the Riley Park Box Office during regular business hours. Thursday begins a four-game homestand against the Power and concludes Sunday evening.
