May 17, 2024 - International League (IL)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Norfolk, Virginia - Mick Abel danced around trouble all night, allowing just three runs in six innings, but the offense for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (16-24) never found their footing in a 4-0 loss to the Norfolk Tides (21-22) on Friday night at Harbor Park.
The Tides got on the board in the second. Abel walked the bases loaded to begin the frame before Maverick Handley lined an RBI single to center. Abel got out of the jam with no more damage thanks to a strikeout and double play.
In the fifth, a walk and double put runners at second and third with nobody out for Norfolk. Heston Kjerstad drove in a run with a sacrifice fly with Billy Cook following with an RBI double to make it 3-0.
Cook registered his second RBI double of the game in the seventh, making it 4-0 Norfolk.
Corbin Martin (1-1) collected the win for Norfolk with a scoreless inning, working around a walk and hit by striking out one. Martin combined with five other Norfolk arms to hold the 'Pigs scoreless.
Abel (1-3) suffered the loss for the 'Pigs despite the Quality Start, allowing three runs in six innings on five hits and five walks, striking out six.
The 'Pigs and Tides face off again on Saturday, May 18th at 6:35 p.m. Ricardo Pinto (0-0, 0.00) is handed the ball for the 'Pigs while the Tides counter with Cade Povich (4-1, 2.16)
