SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Worcester Red Sox (9-7) took their fifth consecutive loss and first series loss of the season on Friday night, a 13-3 win for the Syracuse Mets (5-10) at NBT Bank Stadium.

After Christin Stewart put the road team on top with a first-inning RBI single, Syracuse delivered their first crooked number of the game against WooSox starter Kyle Hart. In the bottom of the first, Hart walked two, hit one and allowed two hits, giving up runs on a Mark Vientos sac-fly and a Carlos Cortes grand slam. That was the tone setter for the evening, as the Mets would reach double digit runs for the second straight game.

Worcester got two back in the third on a two-run homer from Yolmer Sanchez to right, a swing that gave him his fourth long ball of the young season.

Sanchez' homer made it 5-3 Mets, but Syracuse's offense would score in four straight innings to march away with the win. Cortes extended the lead to 6-3 with an RBI double in the fourth, the final run allowed by Kyle Hart, who closed the day with the following line: 4.1 innings, 4 hits, 8 earned runs, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Hart's outing ended one out in to the fifth after a Daniel Palka two-run homer, the third of the series for the left-handed slugger. Syracuse continued the offensive party after Hart's departure, getting a run in the sixth on a Nick Plummer sac-fly against Taylor Cole. Then, in the seventh, they added four more on a Quinn Brodey RBI single and a Cody Bohanek three-run homer. The rally came versus Darin Gillies, who made his Worcester debut after joining the team from AA-Portland earlier this week.

The WooSox continue the six-game series Saturday on the road against the Syracuse Mets. On the mound, Thomas Pannone faces Félix Peña. Radio coverage is live at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
