Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds concluded the six-game road trip at Indianapolis with a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Victory Field.
Right-handed starter Sem Robberse (2-0) rivaled his tremendous start from Tuesday with near-identical numbers Sunday afternoon. Robberse allowed one run on six hits, walked one and struck out five batters in 5.0 innings of work. The right-hander was the winning pitcher in each Memphis win in the series.
The Redbirds bullpen proved stellar in the win. The group stranded the bases loaded twice and forced Indianapolis to leave eight runners on base in the final three frames.
For the third consecutive game, Memphis grabbed the lead in the top of the first. First baseman Luken Baker brought home MLB Rehabber Lars Nootbaar with a sacrifice fly to start the scoring. Baker did the exact same for an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning, which proved to be the game-winning RBI. Two innings prior, shortstop Thomas Saggese clubbed his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left-center field.
The win broke the club's four-game losing streak. Memphis dropped the only series of the season against Indianapolis four games to two. Ryan Loutos (S, 2) continued his scoreless start to the season with a hitless ninth.
The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, April 9 to begin a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
