Iowa Wild News Release
San Antonio, TX - The Iowa Wild (19-16-3-3, 44 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (15-21-2-4, 36 points) 2-1 in overtime in front of 7,892 fans at the AT&T Center on Saturday night. Defenseman Kyle Medvec blasted a slapshot past goalie Michael Houser 2:26 into overtime, lifting the Wild over the Rampage and giving the club five out of a possible six points on the three-game road trip. Forward Marc Hagel also scored, as Iowa extended its current points streak to six-games (4-0-1-1). Iowa goalie John Curry (4-2-1) stopped 25 of 26 in the overtime win. San Antonio goalie Michael Houser (5-5-0) stopped 31 of 33 in defeat. Iowa will play at home on Friday at 7:05 p.m. against Milwaukee.
San Antonio opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Defenseman Ryan Whitney rifled the puck to the Wild net. Iowa goalie John Curry made the initial save but failed to control the rebound, which bounced in the crease. Forward Derek Nesbitt found the puck and slipped it past Curry for the 1-0 lead at 9:32. His 11th goal of the season was also assisted by forward Joey Crabb.
Iowa scored the lone goal of the second period halfway through the middle frame. Captain Jake Dowell accepted a pass through center ice from Warren Peters. Dowell carried the puck down the left-wing side of the San Antonio zone, ripping a shot on net. Goalie Michael Houser kicked out a rebound to the slot and Wild forward Marc Hagel buried the loose puck into the net for his fourth goal of the year at 9:21, tying the game 1-1.
After a scoreless third the two teams skated to overtime tied 1-1. Iowa finished off the dramatic win 2:26 into overtime as defenseman Kyle Medvec found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Forward Zack Phillips and defenseman Jon Landry each had an assist on the game-winning goal. Medvec ripped a slapshot from the high slot, beating Houser on the stickside for the first overtime win in Iowa Wild history.
Iowa returns home on Friday, Jan. 31 for a 7:05 p.m. game with the Milwaukee Admirals. Friday's against Milwaukee marks Military Appreciation Night, presented by the Marines.
