Chicago Wolves News Release
TORONTO --- The Chicago Wolves rebounded from Tuesday night's loss with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Toronto Marlies on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum.
Left wings Dmitrij Jaskin and Chris Porter got on the board for Chicago and defenseman Brent Regner dished out two assists. Goaltender Jake Allen backstopped the victory, with the only blemish coming on one of Toronto's seven power plays.
The Wolves (22-15-2-2) took the early lead with a goal 10:11 into the first period. Defenseman Evan Oberg sent a breakout pass up ice in transition, finding the stick of Jaskin. The rookie rifled a slap shot past Toronto goaltender Garet Sparks glove-side to put Chicago up 1-0.
The visitors would not make it out of the opening frame with the lead as the Marlies (24-13-2-2) capitalized on a two-man advantage at 18:11. Three seconds into a five-on-three power play, center Greg McKegg won a faceoff and sent the puck back to defenseman T.J. Brennan. Brennan blasted a shot low and glove-side to beat Allen.
A power-play tally at 10:42 allowed the Wolves to regain the lead in the second period. Defenseman Brent Regner faked a shot and sent a pass across the blue line to Chorney, who one-timed it on net. Porter, alone in front of the goal, redirected the puck low, evading Sparks' glove.
Both Allen (17-10-2) and Sparks (3-5-0) finished the night with 28 saves.
Chicago continues its five-game road swing at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hamilton at Copps Coliseum.
