Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (28-10-1-3) were defeated by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by the final score of 3-1 Saturday night at the MassMutual Center.
Three unanswered goals for Bridgeport helped the Sound Tigers hand Springfield its second consecutive loss in regulation. Scooter Vaughan, Chris Langkow and Mike Halmo notched the tallies for Bridgeport. Langkow's rebound score at 4:55 of the third period served as the game-winning goal, and Mike Halmo's empty-netter with 1:03 remaining in regulation sealed the victory for the Sound Tigers.
Jack Skille scored the lone Springfield goal at the 11:00 mark of the first period, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. For Skille, the goal was his third of the season in only eight games with the Falcons. The Madison, Wisconsin native has three points (one goal, two assists) in two games since being returned on loan from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Springfield's NHL affiliate.
Saturday's regulation loss was only the Falcons' second this season when scoring the game's first goal. The team is now 19-2-0-1 in games when taking a 1-0 lead. The defeat was also Springfield's first this season to Bridgeport. The Falcons are now 3-1-0-0 versus the Sound Tigers this season.
Neither team converted on the power play. The Falcons were 0-for-4, while the Sound Tigers were 0-for-3.
Mike McKenna made 25 saves on 27 shots in net for Springfield, falling to 10-4-0 this season. The St. Louis native leads all AHL goaltenders with a 1.68 goals-against average and .939 save percentage.
Bridgeport netminder Kenny Reiter stopped 31 of 32 shots, improving to 8-9-2 this season.
The Falcons are back in action Sunday, January 26 to host the Portland Pirates at 3:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center.
