Recap of Weekends Action: Mechanics Go 2-0-0 In Week Seven!

- 12/2: MECHANICS TAKE CARE OF THE ICEHOGS

Two late period goals were scored by both teams to end the first period tied at one. The Mechanics scored first at 17:13 when Matt Smith (5) fired a shot past the Rockford goaltender, Michel Robinson. Chris Bogas (3) and Greg Bullock (16) tallied the assists. At 19:20 the IceHogs got on the board when a scrum in front of the Mechanics net ensued and Jason Noterman buried the loose puck. Both goals were tallied on the power play. Both Adam Edinger (10) and Peter Szabo (4) would score the only goals in the second period. Edinger would score his team leading 10th goal and record his 7th goal in the past 6 games he has played. Kris Vernarsky (4), Edinger (6) and Brent Gretzky (14) would tally the assists. In the third period the Mechanics iced the game when Matt Smith (6) scored his second goal of the game at 9:28 with assists from Kyle Kos (2) and Bullock (17). The IceHogs scored a late goal to cut the lead to 4-2 but the Mechanics hung on for the win. Rod Branch made his ninth consecutive start in net and won his ninth game of the year making 36 saves on 38 shots.

- 12/3: MECHANICS RECLAIM THIRD PLACE WITH WIN OVER GENERALS

The lone first period goal was scored by the Mechanics Adam Edinger (11). Netting the assists were Mike Burgoyne (4) and Brent Gretzky (15). The Mechanics out shot the Generals 15 to 7 in the first period. Flint tied the game at 5:59 but the Mechanics would answer with two more goals to take the 3-1 lead into the intermission. Edinger (12) would score again along with Peter Szabo (5). Both Mechanics goals were scored on the power play. Greg Bullock (18), Kevin Hansen (5), Kyle Kos (3) and Chris Bogas (4) would tally the assists on the power play goals. The Mechanics out shot the Generals 15 to 5 in the second and lead 29 to 12 overall. No goals were scored in the third period as the Mechanics were able to fend off the Generals attacks. Rod Branch made his 10th consecutive start in net making 21 saves on 22 shots and recorded his 10th win of the season. Edinger remains hot netting his 11th and 12th goals of the season and his 9th goal in his past seven games played.

The Mechanics nominate Center, Adam Edinger for the Sher-Wood Player of the Week. Edinger tallied four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in the two games the Mechanics played this week. Edinger also finished with a +2 rating and notched 5 shots on goal and had one power play goal.

Goaltender of the Week

The Mechanics nominate Rod Branch as the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week. Branch finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, in 120 minutes played. Branch also made 57 saves on 60 shots for a .950 SV% and a 1.50 GAA in the two games played this week. Branch made his 9th and 10th consecutive starts in net.

Upcoming Week: Week Eight, Two Games

- Friday, December 9th: Mechanics Travel To Muskegon

The Mechanics return to Muskegon where they last played on Thanksgiving. The Fury defeated the Mechanics 4-1 and leads the season series 2-0-0. FACE-OFF: 7:30 p.m.

- Saturday, December 10rd: QUAD CITY RETURNS TO "THE GARAGE"

The Mallards return to "the Garage" for the second time this season. The last meeting was on November 19th when the Mechanics won 4-2. SATURDAY ALSO MARKS THE RETURN OF EVERYONES FAVORITE PROMOTON, THE TEDDY BEAR TOSS! FANS ARE ENCOURGED TO BRING A NEW UNWRAPPED STUFFED ANIMAL OR TEDDY BEAR AND WHEN THE MECHANICS SCORE THEIR FIRST GOAL THE STUFFED ANIMALS WILL BE TOSSED ONTO THE ICE. THE ITEMS COLLECTED WILL BE GIVEN TO "TOYS FOR TOTS."
