
Kalamazoo's Rennette and Richmond's Groenestege earn weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Kalamazoo Wings center Tyler Rennette has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Richmond RiverDogs goaltender Doug Groenestege has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 4, 2005.
Rennette completed the week with eight points (2g, 6a) and a plus-5 rating in four games played. On Wednesday, he dished out two assists in the 4-0 victory vs. Danbury. In Friday's 7-6 win over Elmira, he had a four-point night (2g, 2a). He added an assist in Saturday's 7-1 loss to Danbury and an assist in Sunday's 4-2 win vs. Adirondack. The 26-year-old native of North Bay, Ontario currently leads Kalamazoo in scoring with 29 points (10g, 19a) and ranks seventh among all UHL scorers. Rennette is also riding a seven-game assist streak.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack center Mike Berry, Danbury center Drew Omicioli, Elmira left wing Jarrett Konkle, Flint forward Leo Thomas, Fort Wayne center Colin Chaulk, Missouri left wing Jim Duhart, Motor City center Adam Edinger, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard, Port Huron right wing Brad Mehalko, Quad City center Patrick Nadeau, Richmond defenseman Dan Vandermeer, Roanoke center Petr Jelinek, and Rockford defenseman Corey Hessler.
Groenestege finished the week with a 1-0-1 record, a 1.00 goals against average (GAA), and a .972 save percentage (SPCT). On Friday, he stopped 28 of 29 shots in the 2-1 shootout loss to Adirondack. On Saturday, he made 42 saves in the 4-1 victory vs. Elmira. The 21-year-old Mitchell, Ontario native is in his first professional season. He currently ranks third in the league with a 2.27 GAA and leads all UHL goaltenders with a .939 SPCT.
