November 30, 2005 (5-3 L)
See-saw battle against East Division rival Adirondack saw the RiverDogs on the short end of a 5-3 decision in front of 2,314 fans at the Richmond Coliseum. Mike Oliveira registered two points on a goal and assist to lead the RiverDogs scoring ledger. Richmond also got goals from Bobby Kukulka and Brian Goudie. Mike D'Alessandro was in goal for the RiverDogs and stopped 28 of 33 shots before being pulled for the 6th attacker late in the game.
December 2, 2005 (2-1 SOL)
Tight defensive battle between Richmond and Adirondack saw the Frostbite score first on a goal by Sylvain Cloutier at 11:31 of the second period. The RiverDogs tied the score on a goal from David Brosseau at 2:03 in the third period. Adirondack outscored Richmond 2-1 in the shootout with the lone RiverDogs goal coming off the stick of Rafal Martynowski. Attendance at the Richmond Coliseum: 3,143.
December 3, 2005 (4-1 W)
Doug Groenestege was the star of stars in the RiverDogs' 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals in front of 3,012. Groenestege stopped 42 of 43 Jackal shots, many from in close. Dan Vandermeer was the recipient of a four-point night on the strength of two goals and pair of assists. Billy Vandermeer scored his first goal as a pro, while Dennis Mullen closed out the scoring for the RiverDogs. The RiverDogs record is now 8-10-2 for 18 points, good for 3rd place in the Eastern Division and just four points behind second place Danbury.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
The RiverDogs conclude their six game homestand with the final three games coming this weekend with the Elmira Jackals returning for a pair on Friday, December 9, 2005 and on Sunday, December 11, 2005. The Fort Wayne Komets make their only appearance in Richmond on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Game times for Friday and Saturday is 7:35 pm and 4:05 pm on Sunday.
GROENESTEGE GLORY:
Rookie Doug Groenestege posted huge numbers for the week and is a serious candidate for UHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK honors. In two games, the 22-year-old native of Mitchell, ONT went 1-0-1 and in those two games, Groenestege posted a 1.00 goals against average with a save percentage of .972. Groenestege was named 1st Star of the Game in the RiverDogs' 4-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals on Saturday.
