McKenna Perfect against Chicago
March 23, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
Mike McKenna made 33 saves for the shutout on Saturday night as the Rivermen beat the Chicago Wolves 3-0 in front of 6,559 fans at Carver Arena. It was the second shutout for McKenna in his last five starts as he matched his single-season career high with his third shutout of the season.
Adam Cracknell had a hand in all three Rivermen goals as he finished with a goal and two assists. T.J. Hensick collected two more assists to move within one point of the AHL lead in points.
Brent Regner opened the game up with his first power-play goal of the season at 10:41 in the first period. After Derek Nesbitt handed him the puck along the wall, he let go of a shot from against the boards that squeaked through the pads of Matt Climie and into the net.
Peoria outshot Chicago 15-8 in the first period only to see the Wolves turn the table 10-4 in a scoreless second period.
At 9:53 of the third, Cracknell added the insurance goal on his 16th of the year. Hensick's centering attempt jumped off a stick and deflected off Cracknell's chest as he charged into the crease. The puck caromed into the net to give the Rivermen a 2-0 lead.
Nesbitt scored the final goal of the game as an empty-netter on the power play at 18:56. Hensick beat out an icing, skated around the net, and passed the puck to Nesbitt just outside the crease. Cracknell also assisted in the goal that brought the final score to 3-0.
The Rivermen picked up 24 shots in the win and went 2-for-4 on power play while the Wolves went 0-for-3.
The Rivermen continue their five-game homestead Sunday against the Toronto Marlies at 5:05 p.m. For tickets or more information call 309-676-1040.
