Crunch End the Regular Season Series against the Devils with a Win

Syracuse, NY "" The Syracuse Crunch defeated the Albany Devils 3-1 in front of a sell-out crowd at the War Memorial Arena tonight.

Riku Helenius made 26 saves to improve the Crunch's overall record to 39-18-3-5 and record at the War Memorial to 16-10-3-3. The Crunch lead the American Hockey League with 86 points.

The final regular season match-up between Syracuse and Albany was the second consecutive Saturday night pairing of the two teams. The Crunch win the season series against the Devils with a 6-2 record.

Vladislav Namestnikov opened the scoring at the 13:39 mark of the first period. J.F. Jacques caused a turnover with a big hit in the left-wing corner, the puck found its way to Namestnikov who then beat Jeff Frazee from the glove side for his fifth goal of the season. Danick Gauthier also had an assist on the play.

Less than a minute later, Dan Sexton extended the Crunch lead to 2-0. After an initial save by Frazee, Sexton's centering pass from behind the net deflected off the Albany goaltender's pads and into the net. J.T. Wyman got his first of two assists on the goal.

J.T. Brown ripped a quick shot from the stick side circle to score with less than five minutes left in the second period. Sexton carried the puck into the zone and passed to Wyman who set up Brown for the lone goal of the period.

Matt Anderson's power-play goal from the stick-side circle ended Helenius' shutout bid with 54 seconds left in the game. Joe Whitney and Eric Gelinas assisted on Albany's only goal of the game.
