
McGarry Sharp in Claws Debut; BlueClaws Split Pair at Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD - Griff McGarry fanned nine over five scoreless innings in his BlueClaws debut as Jersey Shore split a double-header with Aberdeen on Friday at Ripken Stadium.
The BlueClaws sit at 48-56 on the year, 2-3 this week in Aberdeen (54-51).
Jersey Shore won game one 4-0 and Aberdeen took game two 6-4.
Game One
Griff McGarry (1-0) dazzled in his BlueClaws debut. A right-hander from the University of Virginia, McGarry was a 5th round pick in this year's draft and the first 2021 draftee to reach the BlueClaws. He threw five scoreless innings, striking out nine on Friday to earn his first professional win.
DJ Stewart homered for the BlueClaws to open the scoring in the second inning, his 11th home run with the BlueClaws this year. Carlos De La Cruz added an RBI double in the second.
McCarthy Tatum singled home a run in the top of the sixth inning and the BlueClaws scored on a wild pitch in the seventh.
Brandon Young (0-2) gave up two runs in four innings and took the loss.
Game Two
Johan Rojas (first) and Vito Friscia (7th) each homered for Jersey Shore but Aberdeen won the nightcap 6-4.
The IronBirds scored twice in the second off Jonathan Hughes (3-8) to take a 2-0 lead before Rojas' home run in the third inning.
Jean Carmona and AJ Graffanino each drove in two for the IronBirds, who scored twice more in the third and sixth innings to expand their lead. Connor Loeprich (1-4) gave up three runs in five innings and earned the win. Hughes was charged with four runs in four innings and took the loss.
Nicolas Torres went 0-3 for Jersey Shore, snapping his 12-game hitting streak.
The teams wrap up their series with games on Saturday at 6:05 pm and Sunday at 2:05 pm before the BlueClaws return home for their final six home games of the year beginning Tuesday night.
