First Series Loss for Gades as They Drop Fourth Straight
September 3, 2021 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
The Greensboro Grasshoppers survived a ninth-inning threat by the Hudson Valley Renegades to win, 3-2, on Friday night at First National Bank Field.
With one out in the frame, Eric Wagaman worked out a walk and was replaced on the bases by James Nelson. Luis Santos reached on a single before Hoppers' reliever Enmanuel Mejia struck out Anthony Volpe and Everson Pereira to end the game.
The loss gave the Gades their season-high fourth straight loss and pushed them 4.5 games behind the Hoppers in the High-A East playoff race.
Andres Chaparro opened the scoring with an RBI walk in the third but Hudson Valley left the bases loaded to end the inning. The Gades left nine on base for the game.
Greensboro took the lead on a two-run homer by Jonah Davis in the third and extended it on a solo shot by Andres Alvarez in the fifth. Both of the long balls came off Gades' starter Beck Way (1-1).
Chaparro cut the lead to 3-2 when he hit his third home run of the year in the sixth off Grant Ford (8-4). Ford was the second of four pitchers used by Greensboro.
This is the first series loss for Hudson Valley as they'll try to salvage the last games of the road trip.
Hudson Valley (63-42) is 3-7 on the 12-game visit to North Carolina. The series with Greensboro (68-38) continues on Saturday.
Per the State of New York, the Renegades are now open at 100% capacity. Tickets continue to be a tremendous value starting as low as $6. Visit HVRenegades.com for ticket information and so much more.
