Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL â The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announced today that outfielder Chris Tritle will be placed on the disabled list due to a left elbow inflammation. Filling the opening left by Tritle, 2003 Cougars outfielder Marcus McBeth has joined the team from extended spring training to join the Cougars bullpen. McBeth made the transition from outfield to the mound this past off-season.
McBeth appeared in 99 games last season with High-A Modesto (California League), batting at a .234 clip with five home runs and 41 RBI. The Spartanburg, South Carolina native spent part of the 2003 season in Kane County and a stint with High-A Modesto. He helped the Cougars with a .256 average, four long balls and 26 RBI. Like current Cougar Kevin Melillo, McBeth attended the University of South Carolina after Oakland selected him in the 4th round of the June, 2001 draft. After not playing in 2001, the 24-year-old spent 2002 between High-A Visalia and the Arizona League A's (Rookie).
Tritle goes on the disabled list following 34 appearances for the Cougars. Batting .216, Tritle has knocked three out of the park thus far while driving in eleven teammates. In his third season with Kane County, Chris started his professional career with the Arizona A's in 2000 after being signed by Oakland in the 19th round of that year's June draft
