West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - Ian Ostlund came on with two aboard and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but retired all three Wizards batters he faced to hold a one-run lead and close-out a 3-2 victory for the Whitecaps. It was Ostlund's first save of the season. He relieved usual closer Collin Mahoney who walked back-to-back batters to start the inning.
Brent Dlugach collected all three RBI for the Whitecaps. He lifted a two-run single to shallow center in the third then clubbed an RBI sacrifice fly to center in the fifth as West Michigan went in front, 3-0.
Fort Wayne scored both of its runs in the seventh. Chris Kolkhorst had an RBI single and Brett Dowdy drew a bases loaded walk. Anthony Tomey then retired the next two batters as the Wizards left the bases loaded.
Matt Righter started the game for the Whitecaps and threw five shutout innings and improved to 2-0 on the season. It was Righter's longest appearance so far this year.
It's All About Match Ups: West Michigan is now 6-2 against Fort Wayne this season.
Rematch: For the first time since the 2004 Midwest League Championship Series, the Whitecaps will battle Kane County in the first of a four game set Tuesday at Fifth Third ballpark.
