Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (May 30, 2005) - Alan Moye crushed a three-run homer in the third and added a two-run single in the eighth to match his career-high with 5 RBI and lead the Burlington Bees (23-27) to an 8-3 win over the Dayton Dragons (21-29) this afternoon at Community Field. Moye also homered and drove in five on July 1, 2002 while playing for Billings in the Pioneer League. With the victory, the Bees take three out of four in the series against the Dragons.

Dayton got on the board first with three runs in the top of the second inning. Cody Strait and Paul Janish each delivered RBI doubles and Phil Gentry drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The inning ended as Janish was thrown out trying to stretch his double into a triple. The Bees have three total outfield assists in the game, a season-high. Those were the only runs allowed by Bees' starter Patrick Green through six innings. Green (3-3) has worked at least six innings in six straight starts. Yovany Damico pitched two perfect innings and struck out one. Chad Blackwell allowed two hits in a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

The Bees got on the board in the bottom of the second inning against starter Homer Bailey. After striking out the first two batters, Bailey walked Kenard Springer and gave up a single to Miguel Vega. The runners advanced to second and third on a balk and then after a walk to Derek Norman, Bailey's second balk of the inning allowed Springer to score. It was the first run allowed by Bailey his month in a stretch covering 18.2 innings over five starts. The Bees added more and knocked Bailey out of the game in the third. Ed Lucas led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Mario Lisson reached as Bobby Mosby dropped his pop-up at first base. Rusty Brown drove in Lucas with a single to left setting up Moye's three-run homer over the billboard on the light tower in left-center field. Moye now leads the team with four homers on the year and the Bees have hit a homer in three straight games for the first time this season.

Carlos Bohorquez took over for Bailey after the home run. Eddie Solis doubled, Springer walked, and Vega singled to load the bases. Solis scored on a groundout by Norman for the final run of the inning to give the Bees a 6-3 lead. Bohorquez pitched a scoreless fourth and Brad Morenko pitched three scoreless innings before the Bees tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth against Jared Sanders. With one out, Lucas singled to match his season-high with three hits and stole second. Lisson reached on another error by Mosby at first and the two pulled off a double-steal to go to second and third. Lucas finished with four steals, a career-high and the most by a Bees player this season. The Dragons intentionally walked Brown to get to Moye who singled up the middle to drive in a pair. Moye's three hits also tied a season-high.

The Bees continue this home stand with the first of four against the Beloit Snappers tomorrow at 7:00 at Community Field. LH Danny Christensen (0-3, 5.40) will start for the Bees against RH Kyle Waldrop (2-5, 4.92) for the Snappers. Waldrop was drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Twins in the 2004 draft. The gates will open at 6:00 for a Hawk Eye 2-for-Tuesday. Bring the coupon from tomorrow's paper to the ticket window and get two general admission tickets for the price of one. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:40.
