
Chiefs Allow Seven in 9th, Blow Chance to Sweep

Clinton, IAâ Jim Fasano's walk-off three run homer capped a seven run bottom of the 9th as the Clinton LumberKings rallied past the Peoria Chiefs 7-4. The Chefs entered the 9th with a 4-0 lead and were within two outs of a four game sweep before seven straight LumberKings reached and scored. With the loss the Chiefs fall to 25-26 on the season.
Kevin Richardson started the rally with a one out walk from Alfredo Polanco. Emerston Frostad singled and closer Jerry Blevins reliever Polanco. Ben Harrison singled home Richardson and Blevins walked Brandon Boggs to load the bases. Brandon Cashman's single scored two and Tug Hulett's basehit tied the game and set the stage for Fasano's walk off. Blevins took the loss
With the game scoreless in the 5th, Drew Larsen drew a leadoff walk from Clinton starter John Bannister. Back to back groundouts moved Larsen to third base with two down. Sam Fuld beat out a drag bunt to second as Larsen scored with the game's first run. Fuld then stole second and scored on a single by Eric Patterson.
In the 6th, Luis Montanez singled to left with one out and after a pop-up he stole second to get into scoring position for Larsen. A basehit up the middle by Larsen scored Montanez and gave the Chiefs a 3-0 lead before Bannister got out of the inning.
The Chiefs added another run against Clinton reliever Marc LaMacchia in the 9th. With two outs, Oscar Bernard singled and scored on a hit-and-run basehit to left-center by Fuld. Patterson followed with his fourth hit of the season but LaMacchia got out of the inning when Aaron Sisk grounded to second.
Chiefs starter Lee Gwaltney threw six shutout innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five. Alfredo Polanco tossed 2 1/3 innings of relief before running into trouble in the 9th. He walked two, struck out two and allowed one hit before leaving with two on and one out in the bottom of the 9th.

Lee Gwaltney (SP) & Eric Patterson (2B) â Gwaltney pitched well enough to win on Monday going six innings without allowing a run. The righthander lowered his ERA to 2.91 on the season and struck out five. Patterson extended his hit streak to a Chiefs season long 14 games by going 4-for-5 with a stolen base and a RBI.
Notes...The Chiefs haven't been .500 since April 8th when the Chiefs were 1-1...Patterson singled in the 3rd inning to extend his hit streak to 14 games... Patterson collected the first four hit game of his career...Sisk has hit safely in all 11 games he has played since joining the Chiefs... The Chiefs now head to Battle Creek, MI to start a four game series with the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays...Chiefs RH Matt Weber will start the first game on Tuesday at 7:05 EST with LJ James Houser scheduled for the Devil Rays...The game can be heard on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
