Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars won the final game of an eight-game homestand, earning the split in the four-game set with the Lansing Lugnuts after a 2-1 win Monday afternoon in front of 8,139 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Jose Pineda's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Cougars the winning run.

Lansing scored its only tally in the fifth against Kane County starter Ryan Webb. A walk, single and sacrifice fly made it 1-0 in favor of the Lugnuts, but the Cougars responded in the bottom of the frame of Lugnuts starter Chi-Hung Cheng. Jose Pineda and Kory Wayment walked. Then Travis Chapman hit a bouncer to third baseman Jason Armstrong, whose throw to second was dropped by Juan Peralta, allowing Pineda to score from second to tie it 1-1.

Eddie Kim drew a pinch-hit walk from reliever Jeremy Harper to start the eighth for the Cougars. Tommy Everidge singled with one out. After Nick Blasi entered to run for Kim, Myron Leslie walked to load the bases before Pineda's deep drive to center brought home Blasi for the game-winning RBI.

Webb worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing a run on one hit, walking four and fanning four. Keith Perez (2-0) got the win after 2 1/3 frames of scoreless relief. Harper (0-2) took the loss for Lansing.

The Cougars (22-28) now head to West Michigan to begin a series Tuesday night against the Whitecaps. Ryan Ford (5-3, 4.69) goes for Kane County against right-hander Jair Jurrjens (4-1, 2.49) of West Michigan. The first pitch is set for 5:35 CDT.
