Kamloops, BC - Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) makes 25 saves for his first career WHL shutout in Medicine Hat's 4-0 win over the Kamloops Blazers Friday night.
The Tigers and Blazers exchanged chances in the first period but starters Evan May & Jesse Sanche would stand tall male eight and six saves respectively. Medicine Hat would get into penalty trouble in two different instances but the penalty kill would hold court going 2/2 as the 1st period came to a close.
In the middle frame the Tigers would finally break the ice in this one as Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) would re-direct his second goal of the season in as many games at 7:14 to make it 1-0 visitors. Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) & Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, AB) would contribute on the first Tigers goal.
Cue local product Brett Calhoon (Oliver, BC) as in as many games against the Kamloops Blazers going back to the 2022-2023 season would go to the net and chip home his first of the season at 11:01 from Kadon McCann (Cochrane, AB) & Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB). Medicine Hat would take a late penalty but would continue the tidy work on the penalty kill forcing the Blazers to be 0/3 on the power play through two periods of play.
Off to the third period where the Tigers would slowly put the Blazers away as for the third time in as many games, Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) would back-hand his 5th of the season past Jesse Sanche at 2:07 to make it 3-0 Tigers. The final tally would 7:36 later as Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would bang home a rebound for his 8th of the season from Krebs at 9:33.
Kamloops would get a late power play but Evan May would hang on for a 25 save shutout and the Tiger's 7th win of the campaign.
The penalty kill ran a third consecutive clean sheet going 4/4 while the Tigers had an extremely brief and shortened power play to go 0/1 on this Friday night.
Next up is the final leg of the BC Division road-trip Sunday evening in Prince George as the Tigers take on the Cougars.
