Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - For the first time in 19 days, the Calgary Hitmen returned home to Scotiabank Saddledome tonight to welcome the Seattle Thunderbirds. It was the first time Calgary hosted Seattle since the 2019 season.
Calgary found themselves in another close matchup tonight, with the game being decided in extra minutes for the second time in as many games. Calgary picked up a point in a 3-2 loss to the visiting Thunderbirds.
Seattle opened up the scoring halfway through the first period courtesy of Braeden Cootes. The second period would remain scoreless, until the last five seconds of the period when Reese Hamilton found himself one-on-one with netminder Spencer Michnik, finding the back of the net to tie things up heading into the final frame. Oliver Tulk kicked off the final frame with a power play goal just over a minute into the period to give Calgary their first lead of the game. Seattle wouldn't let it go unanswered, with Antonio Martorana scoring with six minutes remaining in regulation to tie it up and send the game to overtime. Jeremey Hanzel wasted no time scoring the game winner just 25 seconds into extra minutes, making the final score 3-2.
Reese Hamilton (1g) earned third star of the game, while Oliver Tulk (1g,1a) earned second star. Ethan Buenaventura was solid in net once again making 28 saves. Shots finished up 33-31 in favour of Calgary.
Calgary is back at the Saddledome Sunday, Oct. 22 to host the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Game time is 2:00 p.m. for Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential. Tickets are available at HitmenHockey.com.
