FLORENCE FREEDOM (4-0) vs. TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS (1-3)
Wednesday, May 21 - 6:35 p.m. ET
UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY
Game #5 - Home Game #5 (4-0), (4-0)
RHP #23 Chuck Weaver (4-2, 3.70 ERA, 2013) vs. LHP #31 Patrick Merkling (1-0, 7.79 ERA, 2013)
Last time out...
Sam Eberle singled home Joe Staley and the Florence Freedom (4-0) stunned the Traverse City Beach Bums (1-3) by scoring three runs in the eighth inning on their way to a 4-3 victory Tuesday night at UC Health Stadium. The Beach Bums scored three runs in the first inning and had numerous opportunities to create some space between themselves and the Freedom. But Florence got a run back in the bottom of the first on a Joe Staley's RBI double before their three-run eighth. In the meantime, Florence starter Peter Gehle got out of numerous jams through six innings and Daniel DeSimone tossed two shutout frames. In the eighth, Buddy Sosnoskie doubled in pinch runner Ryan Henley and it was a 3-2 ballgame. It was Staley coming up huge again with a single up the middle to score Sosnoskie and tie the game. Then Eberle singled in Staley to give Florence the lead for the first time.
For Starters...
Chuck Weaver was signed by the Freedom in June 2013 after he finished up his collegiate career at IPFW. Wayne, Ind. native started 13 games as a senior for the Mastadons, posting a 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA. Weaver threw two complete games as a senior and pitched 70.2 innings.
