Washington Uses the Long Ball in 4-1 Win

Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, recorded a 4-1 victory over the Frontier Greys in the second game of the series at CONSOL Energy Park Wednesday.

Washington's offense ignited when first baseman William Beckwith, knocked in outfielder Stewart Ijames on a line drive single in the second inning. Catcher Jim Vahalik brought fans to their feet again when he sent a two-run homerun over the left field fence for a 3-0 advantage.

Infielder Ryan Kresky followed Vahalik's lead the next inning when he belted his first homerun of the season making the score 4-0.

Frontier Greys Joe Rapp, recorded the team's only run of the night when he hit his second solo homerun in this series in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 4-1.

Center fielder Daniel Poma played a big role in Washington's victory batting 2-4 with three stolen bases on the night.

Defensively, Washington continued to shine. The infield turned three double plays in the victory, all three times with Greys threating on the bases.

On the mound, Shawn Blackwell (1-0) earned the win for Washington. Blackwell pitched seven complete innings allowing one run off three hits with two strikeouts. Ryan Hartman (0-2) took the loss for the Greys as he threw four runs off six hits in six innings.
