Beach Bums and Freedom Suspended in Third Inning

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Freedom and Traverse City Beach Bums battled until the bottom of the third inning before being suspended by rain and lightning on Wednesday night at UC Health Stadium. The game will be picked up on Thursday at 5:05 p.m. with the Freedom leading 1-0, a runner on first and nobody out. The game will last the normal nine innings and will then be followed by a seven-inning contest 30 minutes after the completion of game one.

Florence took a 1-0 lead in the last of the first inning against starter Patrick Merkling on an RBI double from Joe Staley, scoring Jacob Tanis. Merkling managed to strike out the side in the first and finished with five strikeouts and a walk in 2+ innings.

Merkling will be lifted for Rusty Shellhorn (0-0, 0.00) in the resumption of the suspended contest at 5:05 p.m. Florence has not announced who will take the mound in the fourth inning.

In the second game of the quasi-doubleheader, Alex Gillingham (0-1, 2.46) will get the ball for the Beach Bums while the Freedom will counter with Brad Allen (0-0, 9.00). Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 5:00 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
