
CornBelters Fall to Rascals to Drop 4th Straight Game

Normal, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave up two big innings and dropped their fourth straight game, 8-4 to the River City Rascals on Wednesday afternoon at a sold-out Corn Crib.
The CornBelters picked up an unearned run in the first inning when Mark Micowski led off with a single, went to third on two fielder's choices and scored on a throwing error on a ground ball from Richard Lucas.
The Rascals entered the scoring column with a big fifth inning, scoring four times while batting eight men to take a 4-1 lead on RBIs from Josh Ludy, Eric Williams, Johnny Morales and Taylor Ard.
River City added a run in the eighth when Curran Redal reached base via walk and scored on a double to the left field corner by Josh Ludy to put the Rascals ahead 5-1.
The Belters battled back in the eighth with a pair of lead-off walks followed by a three-run homer to right center by Mike Schwartz to cut the Rascals lead to 5-4.
The Rascals pushed the Belters back to arm's length in the ninth as they took advantage of a pair of walks and scored two runs on a throwing error and a single by Saxon Butler for a 7-4 advantage. Brian Hansen squeezed home Butler for the final run.
Drew Provence (1-1) took the loss with five innings of work, giving up eight hits and four runs while striking out two without a walk. Dane Stone (1-0) earned the win by giving up just one unearned run in five innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
The CornBelters conclude the series and the homestand with a 7 p.m. Thursday first pitch against the Rascals. Miller Thirst Quenching Thursday features $1 drafts and $2 margaritas plus a post-game concert in the Grieder's Patio at the Park featuring the Robert Brown Band.
