Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Right wing Zach O'Brien and defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk tallied power play goals as the Manchester Monarchs earned a 2-1 victory over the Hershey Bears at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester (42-17-2-6) leads the Atlantic Division with 92 points. Hershey (32-25-4-4) is ranked fourth in the East Division with 72 points.

"We looked like a team that was a little bit gassed from an emotional game in Springfield yesterday." said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. "I thought we played well enough to win. You got to credit Hershey with a lot of, good push there at the tail end to try to tie it up, but a couple of key goals at key moments were the difference. J.F.Berube also made some huge saves for us at the right time."

Bodnarchuk gave the Monarchs their second power play goal of the game at 3:31 in the second period. Center Linden Vey won the face-off and passed the puck to Bodnarchuk who took a slap shot from the center point beating Hershey netminder Philipp Grubauer to make it a 2-1 game.

O'Brien got the Monarchs on the board first with a power play goal in the first period. Left wing Andy Andreoff fired a wrist shot from the right face-off circle. The shot rebounded off Grubauer and O'Brien picked up the puck in the low slot. O'Brien put the puck in the net at 9:19 of the opening frame. The goal was also assisted by right wing James Livingston.

The Bears answered back with a goal by defenseman Julien Brouillette early in the second period. Grubauer gained control of the puck and passed it to center Matt Watkins who took it down the right wing. Watkins' shot bounced off of Manchester goaltender J.F. Berube's pads and Brouillette charged in to put the rebound in the net at 1:04 of the middle frame.

Berube (25-15-2) collected his 25th victory of the season, stopping 19-of-20. Grubauer (11-11-1) took his 11th loss of the season with 34 saves on 36 shots.

Manchester was 2-for-2 on the power play. Hershey went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
