Kansas City Mavericks News Release
DAYTON, Ohio - The Missouri Mavericks collected their 16th road win of the season as they skated to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Dayton Gems Friday night at Hara Arena. Andrew Courtney netted a pair of goals and Charlie Effinger stopped 30 shots for his third shutout of the 2011-12 season. Jakub Macek spelled Effinger for the final eight minutes of regulation, securing the shutout by stopping all three shots he faced. The Mavs return home tomorrow night to face off against the rival Wichita Thunder at 7:05 at Independence Events Center.
Andrew Courtney got the Mavs on the board just a minute and a half into regulation. Ed McGrane and Sebastien Thinel assisted on Courtney's opening tally. Kris Hogg scored a goal in his second consecutive game six minutes later at the 7:20 mark of the period. Randy McNaught got his first point as a Maverick with an assist on the goal. Also getting an assist on Hogg's goal was Cole Ruwe. The Mavs took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission after being outshot 13-12 by the Gems in the period.
John-Scott Dickson made it a 3-0 Missouri lead seven minutes into the second period on his 23rd goal of the season. Andrew Favot added the lone assist on the goal. Courtney added his second goal of the evening just over a minute later on a shorthanded goal. McGrane got his second assist of the evening on the goal and David Pszenyczny was also credited with a helper on the Courtney goal.
The third period went scoreless, but Mavericks Head Coach Scott Hillman saw fit for Jakub Macek to play the final eight minutes of regulation, as Macek had not appeared in a game since January 28 against the Quad City Mallards. Macek stopped all three shots he faced, securing the shutout for Effinger.
The Mavericks return home Saturday night to face the hated Wichita Thunder at Independence Events Center. Limited tickets remain. Sunday afternoon, the team will head back to Wichita for the back-end of the home-and-home set.
