Oilers Snap Brahmas' Win Streak at Seven

February 24, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

TULSA, Oklahoma - The Brahmas had trouble finding the back of the net Friday night in Tulsa, as the Oilers halted Texas' seven-game win streak with a 2-1 victory.

Tulsa's offense was fueled by a couple of unusual suspects. Defenseman Tyler Fleck, who entered Friday night's game without a goal this season, gave the Oilers an early 1-0 lead at the 9:32 mark of the first period. After a scoreless second period, fellow Tulsa D-man Gio Flamminio snuck a fluttering slap shot from the point by Brahmas' netminder Mark Guggenberger to extend the Oilers' lead to 2-0 with 15:06 to play in the third period. For Flamminio, it was only his second goal of the season.

The Brahmas responded just four minutes later with a goal of their own, the 13th of the season for T.J. Fox, to cut the deficit in half with 10:31 left in regulation. Texas had a few opportunities to tie the game late in the period but was unable to get the puck past Tulsa goaltender Steve Christie again. On the night, Christie made 29 saves on 30 shots fired by the Brahmas.

Guggenberger's seven-game win streak was snapped as well. The rookie goalie, who leads the CHL in goals against average and save percentage, stopped 19 of 21 Tulsa shots Friday night.

The Brahmas and Oilers will meet twice more this weekend, with the final two matchups coming from the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills. The teams face off on Saturday, February 25 at 7:45pm and on Sunday, February 26 at 5:30pm.
