Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Allen Americans 4-1.
The Laredo Bucks and the Allen Americans faced each other for the ninth time this season in Allen, Texas on Friday, February 24th at 7:05pm. The Bucks won 2-1 the last time these two teams met on January 8th.
The game began with both teams charging into the zones. It did not take long for the game to take a physical turn as Justin Styffe dropped the mitts versus Trevor Hendrikx at 5:42 into the game. The Laredo Bucks attacked the Allen zone halfway through the frame, but were unable to find the back of the net. Neither team was able to light the lamp as the period drew to a close. The Bucks outshot the Americans 8-4 in the opening period of play.
The Bucks opening play of the second period was a 2-1 breakaway, but the Allen netminder denied Matt Boyd. However, Laredo controlled the rebound and Greg Moore buried a one-timer from the circle giving the Bucks a 1-0 lead. Matt Boyd assisted on the goal only 43 seconds into the frame. Laredo was unable to take advantage of two powerplay opportunities midway into the second. At 17:06, Ryan Sparling put a move on the defensemen and was able to go backhand deflecting the puck off the stick of the goalie. Erik Boisvert assisted on the goal. Only 35 seconds later Ryan Sparling scored once again, this time with a forehand over the shoulder of Marco Cousineau. Rusty Masters and A.J. Hau assisted on the goal, giving Laredo a 3-0 lead. Both teams had 11 shots on net during the second period.
The Americans had several chances to score during the third period, but Ryan Rondeau continued to stand strong in his net. However, the Americans were able to break through and score stick side at 13:33. The Bucks were tested by Allen for the remainder of the game, but Laredo was able to hold on. Ryan Sparling sealed the win for the Bucks by scoring his third goal of the game, an unassisted emptynetter, at 18:35.
