Allen, TX (January 19, 2014) - The Missouri Mavericks put the pressure on the Allen Americans in their Monday afternoon matchup, but despite dominating shots on goal opportunities through 60 minutes, the Mavs could not recover from an early 3-0 deficit, ultimately falling 5-2 to their league-leading opponent.

The Americans jumped on the board early, and in a big way, with a power play goal only 1:05 into play via Justin Baker. By the midpoint of the opening frame, Allen would own a 3-0 lead over the Mavericks- Gary Steffes (3:24), Josef Fojtik (11:08)- and Maxime Lagace would see his evening between the pipes end as Mike Clemente replaced him in goal for Missouri.

Missouri finally made a mark on the scoreboard at 14:53 of the second period, when Mavs forward Jared Brown was awarded a penalty shot while short-handed with the Americans on the power play to make it 3-1.

Within striking distance of the Americans, the Mavs continued aggressive play to start the third period, but Chad Costello made the most of his opportunities in front of the Missouri net, claiming not 1, but 2 points for the home team within 3 minutes of each other.

Allen leading 5-1, Chris Crane notched the final tally of the game for Missouri at 12:15 of the third frame to set the scoreboard at 5-2.

The Mavs ended the game leading shots on goal 38-24 over the Americans, with Mike Clemente making 26 saves between the pipes.

This loss moves Missouri to 1-7-2-0 in their last ten games. The Mavs have not picked up 2 points in a game decision since January 2nd (seven games).

The Missouri Mavericks play their next seven games at home at Independence Events Center, beginning with back-to-back weekend contests against the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, January 23rd and the Quad City Mallards on Saturday, January 24th.

Single game tickets are available for purchase online at TicketMaster.com or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center.
