Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas The Allen Americans defeated the Missouri Mavericks on Monday afternoon, by a 5-2 score at Allen Event Center. With the win, the Americans claim the top spot in the ECHL with 59 points.
Chad Costello netted his 19th and 20th goals of the season, finishing the afternoon with three points. Costello assisted on Justin Baker's 7th of the year in the first period. Gary Steffes scored number 24 of the season, to move into a tie with Tulsa's Adam Pleskach for the top spot in the ECHL. Josef Fojtik also lit the lamp for Allen, scoring his first of the year and first in an Americans sweater.
The Missouri Mavericks scored on a rare shorthanded penalty shot. Mavericks forward Jared Brown was hauled down in front of Aaron Dell on a breakaway, while the Mavericks were down a man. Brown fired one past Dell to the glove side for his 6th of the season. Riley Grantham had the other goal for Missouri, which lost for the seventh game in a row.
"It wasn't perfect tonight, but we got it done said Americans forward and ECHL leading scorer Chad Costello. "Aaron Dell made some great saves for us and we cashed in on our opportunities."
The Americans won their ninth game in a row on Monday, and are now up on second place Quad City by 17 points in the ECHL Central Division, and have the best overall record in the ECHL at 28-5-1-2.
The Americans are off until after the ECHL All Star break and will resume action on Friday night in Indianapolis, for their first ever meeting against the Fuel. Allen will play in Toledo on Saturday night and Kalamazoo on Sunday afternoon.
