Kansas City Mavericks News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Kansas City Mavericks (7-1-1-0) overcame a slow start en route to a 5-3 victory over the Allen Americans (3-8-1-0) Friday night at the Allen Event Center.

The victory was the second this week over Allen and extended the Mavericks' win streak to five games.

It was all Americans at the start of the first period, the home team running up a 2-0 lead in the first 7:21 of the game with goals from David Makowski and Zach Pochiro. The dominant start carried through most of the first period with the Americans building a 14-3 lead in shots on goal.

The Mavericks responded, though, Darian Dziurzynski scoring on the power play late in the first period, lighting the lamp with assists from Rocco Carzo and Willie Raskob with just 50 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Kansas City flipped the script in the second period, coming out of the locker room on fire en route to a pair of goals within the first three-and-a-half minutes of the second to jump on top, strikes from Greg Betzold and Rocco Carzo.

David Dziurzynski's fourth goal of the season then came five minutes later, pushing the advantage to two goals entering the final frame.

Both teams lit the lamp once in the final frame, David Dziurzynski striking with an empty net goal and then Allen's Spencer Asuchak getting one back with 40 seconds left to produce the 5-3 final.

The Mavericks and Americans meet once again Saturday night in Allen, a 7:05 p.m. puck drop, before the Mavs return home for the Kids Day Game against Wichita Tuesday at 10:35 a.m.
